Seasonal Transitions - A Chance to Recalibrate
This is the time between seasons, as we are shifting from once distinct energy into another - and it is one of the most powerful times to slow down, self tend, and reset.
Fall into comfort and self-care this season.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine -
the most important time to take care of our health is during seasonal transitions. There is a distinct energy shifting from Spring to Summer, from Summer to Fall, from Fall to Winter, from Winter to Spring. Temperatures are in flux, barometric pressures are all over the place, we have one foot in the old season and the other foot in the next season. It’s a threshold time - a liminal space of fluctuation, recalibration, of transformation. It is also a time when folks are often more vulnerable to get sick or injured - I can’t tell you how many colds, out of the blue headaches, and “I slept on my neck wrong” shoulder spasms I’ve treated in the past week! This is why it's so important to slow down a bit to notice the changes happening, both at the macro level in our environment and the micro level in our own system
The transition from Late Summer (Earth Element) into Fall (Metal Element) is particularly a powerful one. The abundance and Yang nature of summer are starting to fade. We feel cooler temperatures slowly creep in and more moisture in the air. Flowers are drying up, blossoms spent and the last of summer crops are being harvested. The brightness and optimism of summer may start to fade into a more inward gaze that can be calculating, honest, and more realistic. We just passed the Fall Equinox when the polarity of Yin and Yang, Day and Night were perfectly equal. There is a unique energy in the air. A point of balance, of equanimity. We see the whole picture.
Spring expands outward.
Summer reaches maximum expression.
Late Summer gathers and ripens.
Autumn begins contracting inward and releases.
Winter descends and find stillness.
